Description
Deliciously caramelized Brussels sprouts tossed with crispy bacon and garlic, finished with balsamic vinegar and Parmesan cheese. This savory side dish is perfect for any meal!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound Brussels sprouts, trimmed and halved
- 4 slices of thick-cut bacon, chopped
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar (optional)
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
Instructions
- Rinse the Brussels sprouts under cold water to remove any dirt or debris. Shake off excess water.
- Trim the ends of each Brussels sprout with a sharp knife and cut them in half lengthwise. Quarter larger sprouts for even cooking.
- Place the halved Brussels sprouts in a large mixing bowl.
- In a large skillet, add the chopped bacon and turn the heat to medium. Cook slowly for 5-7 minutes until crispy and golden brown. Remove bacon with a slotted spoon and place on a paper towel-lined plate, leaving the drippings in the skillet.
- Add olive oil to the skillet with the bacon drippings.
- Add the halved Brussels sprouts cut side down, sprinkle with salt and black pepper, and cook undisturbed for 5-7 minutes until golden-brown.
- Stir the Brussels sprouts to ensure even cooking.
- Add minced garlic to the skillet and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.
- If using, drizzle balsamic vinegar over the Brussels sprouts and stir to combine. Cook for another minute.
- Return the crispy bacon to the skillet and toss everything together to combine.
- If desired, sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over the top and let it melt slightly.
- Remove from heat and transfer the Brussels sprouts with bacon to a serving dish. Serve warm or at room temperature.
- Optionally, drizzle more balsamic vinegar or sprinkle additional Parmesan cheese before serving.
Notes
- For best results, use thick-cut bacon for extra crispiness.
- Adjust the amount of salt based on your preference, as the bacon adds saltiness.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in a skillet for best texture.
