Chicken Cordon Bleu Stromboli: A Delicious Twist on a Classic Recipe

  • Author: Ava
  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4-6 servings 1x

Description

This Chicken and Ham Stromboli features tender chicken and diced ham wrapped in golden-brown pizza dough, combined with Swiss and mozzarella cheeses for a cheesy, savory delight. It’s perfect for family dinners or as a fun party appetizer!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound of boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup of cooked ham, diced
  • 1 cup of Swiss cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup of mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon of onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon of paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • 1 package of pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Slice the chicken breasts into thin strips, about 1/2 inch thick.
  3. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chicken strips and season with garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  4. Cook the chicken for 5-7 minutes until cooked through and no longer pink. Chop into smaller pieces and set aside.
  5. In a mixing bowl, combine the cooked chicken, diced ham, Swiss cheese, and mozzarella cheese. Mix well and adjust seasoning if needed.
  6. If using store-bought pizza dough, let it sit at room temperature for 10-15 minutes. Roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle, about 12×16 inches.
  7. Transfer the rolled dough onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  8. Spoon the chicken and cheese mixture onto the center of the dough, leaving 2 inches of space on each side. Spread the filling evenly.
  9. Fold the long sides of the dough over the filling and pinch the edges to seal. Fold the ends over and pinch to secure.
  10. Make a few slits on the top of the dough for steam to escape. Brush with the beaten egg.
  11. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  12. Rotate the baking sheet halfway through for even cooking.
  13. Let the Stromboli cool for 5-10 minutes before slicing into thick pieces.

Notes

  • Feel free to customize the filling with your favorite ingredients, such as vegetables or different cheeses.
  • Serve with marinara sauce for dipping, if desired.
