Ingredients
Scale
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 8 slices of thick bread (like brioche or challah)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional, for dipping)
- 1/4 cup caramel sauce (optional, for drizzling)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, crack the 4 large eggs and whisk until smooth.
- Add 1 cup of whole milk to the eggs and mix well.
- Pour in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, followed by 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Whisk until combined and slightly frothy.
- Let the 8 slices of thick bread sit out to dry slightly for better absorption.
- Optionally, cut the bread into triangles or sticks for presentation.
- In a large skillet or griddle, melt 1/4 cup of unsalted butter over medium heat until bubbling.
- Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, ensuring both sides are well-coated, soaking for a few seconds.
- Place the coated bread in the hot skillet, cooking in batches if necessary.
- Cook each slice for about 3-4 minutes on one side until golden brown, then flip and cook for another 3-4 minutes.
- In a shallow dish, combine 1/2 cup of granulated sugar with 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon for the churro coating.
- Remove the cooked French toast from the skillet and toss it in the cinnamon-sugar mixture while still warm.
- Stack 2-3 slices on a plate and drizzle with caramel sauce if desired.
- Optionally, sprinkle chocolate chips on top or serve them on the side for dipping.
- Serve warm with extra cinnamon-sugar and fresh fruit, or alongside crispy bacon or sausage.
