Indulge in this delightful Churro French Toast, a sweet twist on a classic breakfast favorite. Coated in cinnamon-sugar and served warm, it’s perfect for a special brunch or a cozy morning at home. Enjoy the rich flavors and optional chocolate chips or caramel drizzle for an extra treat!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 8 slices of thick bread (like brioche or challah)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional, for dipping)
  • 1/4 cup caramel sauce (optional, for drizzling)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, crack the 4 large eggs and whisk until smooth.
  2. Add 1 cup of whole milk to the eggs and mix well.
  3. Pour in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, followed by 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Whisk until combined and slightly frothy.
  4. Let the 8 slices of thick bread sit out to dry slightly for better absorption.
  5. Optionally, cut the bread into triangles or sticks for presentation.
  6. In a large skillet or griddle, melt 1/4 cup of unsalted butter over medium heat until bubbling.
  7. Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, ensuring both sides are well-coated, soaking for a few seconds.
  8. Place the coated bread in the hot skillet, cooking in batches if necessary.
  9. Cook each slice for about 3-4 minutes on one side until golden brown, then flip and cook for another 3-4 minutes.
  10. In a shallow dish, combine 1/2 cup of granulated sugar with 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon for the churro coating.
  11. Remove the cooked French toast from the skillet and toss it in the cinnamon-sugar mixture while still warm.
  12. Stack 2-3 slices on a plate and drizzle with caramel sauce if desired.
  13. Optionally, sprinkle chocolate chips on top or serve them on the side for dipping.
  14. Serve warm with extra cinnamon-sugar and fresh fruit, or alongside crispy bacon or sausage.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use brioche or challah bread.
