Ingredients
Scale
- 1 sheet of all-butter puff pastry, thawed
- 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Gruyere cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Provolone cheese
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon water or milk
- Pinch of sea salt
- Freshly ground black pepper
- Touch of garlic powder
- Optional: sprinkle of dried Italian herbs
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line two large baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the egg with a tablespoon of water or milk to create the egg wash. Lightly brush the entire surface of the unrolled puff pastry with about half of this egg wash.
- Evenly sprinkle half of your freshly grated Parmesan over the egg-washed pastry, followed by half of the grated Gruyere and half of the grated Provolone.
- Carefully unroll the second sheet of puff pastry directly over the cheesed first layer and gently press down to adhere.
- Brush the top of the second pastry layer with the remaining egg wash. Sprinkle the remaining half of the cheeses evenly over the top and finish with a dusting of sea salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.
- Cut the layered pastry lengthwise into strips about 1/2 to 3/4 inch wide. Twist each strip several times and place them on the prepared baking sheets.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the twists are golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and crispy.
- Transfer the twists to a wire rack to cool for a few minutes before serving.
