Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large apples (preferably a mix of sweet and tart, like Fuji and Granny Smith)
- 1/2 cup almond butter (or any nut butter of your choice)
- 1/4 cup granola (choose your favorite variety)
- 1/4 cup mini chocolate chips (dark chocolate for a healthier option)
- 1/4 cup shredded coconut (unsweetened for a healthier choice)
- 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup (optional, for extra sweetness)
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon (for a warm flavor)
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds (for added nutrition)
- 1 tablespoon chopped nuts (like walnuts or pecans, optional)
Instructions
- Wash the apples thoroughly under cold water to remove any wax or pesticides. Use a vegetable brush for this step.
- Dry the apples with a paper towel or a clean kitchen towel.
- Core the apples using an apple corer or a knife. If using a knife, carefully slice around the core to remove it.
- Slice the apples into thin rounds, about 1/4 inch thick, or cut them into wedges if preferred.
- To prevent browning, toss the apple slices in a little lemon juice if they will sit for a while before serving.
- In a small microwave-safe bowl, add the almond butter. Microwave for about 15-20 seconds if it’s too thick to drizzle.
- If desired, add honey or maple syrup to sweeten the almond butter. Stir well until combined.
- Sprinkle in the cinnamon and mix until everything is well incorporated.
- On a large serving platter or a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, arrange the apple slices in a single layer, overlapping slightly for presentation.
- Drizzle the prepared almond butter mixture generously over the apple slices.
- Sprinkle the granola evenly over the apple slices for added crunch.
- Scatter the mini chocolate chips over the top.
- If using shredded coconut, sprinkle it on top as well.
- For added nutrition, sprinkle chia seeds and chopped nuts over the nachos.
- Drizzle a bit more honey or maple syrup over the top if desired.
- Sprinkle a little extra cinnamon on top for aroma and flavor.
- Serve immediately! Best enjoyed fresh, but leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for a day or two.
Notes
- Feel free to swap almond butter for peanut butter, sunflower seed butter, or yogurt for a nut-free option.
- Experiment with different toppings like dried fruits, seeds, or a sprinkle of sea salt for a sweet and salty combination.
- For added creaminess and protein, try adding a layer of Greek yogurt between the apple slices.
