Description

These Spicy Baked Beans with Beef Bacon and Brown Sugar are a flavor-packed dish that elevates classic comfort food to new heights. With a perfect balance of sweet, savory, and spicy, they are sure to impress at any gathering.

Ingredients

  • Canned Baked Beans
  • Beef Bacon
  • Brown Sugar
  • Cayenne Pepper
  • Chili Powder
  • Smoked Paprika
  • Black Pepper
  • Onion
  • Garlic
  • Ketchup
  • Yellow Mustard or Dijon Mustard
  • Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Beef Broth or Balsamic Vinegar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and set aside a sturdy, oven-safe baking dish.
  2. Cook the beef bacon in a large skillet over medium-high heat until crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Transfer to a plate lined with paper towels to drain, reserving about 2 tablespoons of the rendered fat.
  3. Return the skillet to medium heat and add the diced onion, cooking until softened and translucent, about 5-7 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  4. Stir in the cayenne pepper, chili powder, smoked paprika, and black pepper with the onions and garlic, cooking for about 30 seconds.
  5. Pour in the canned baked beans (without draining), brown sugar, ketchup, yellow mustard (or Dijon), apple cider vinegar, and beef broth or balsamic vinegar. Stir until well combined and the brown sugar has dissolved. Add two-thirds of the crumbled beef bacon to the mixture.
  6. Transfer the bean mixture to the prepared baking dish and cover tightly with aluminum foil. Bake for 30 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for another 15-20 minutes until bubbly and thickened.
  7. Let the beans rest for a few minutes after baking, then garnish with the remaining crumbled beef bacon and serve hot.

Keywords: Do not drain the canned baked beans for a creamy sauce. Adjust the heat level by modifying the cayenne pepper to your preference. These beans taste even better the next day as the flavors meld.
