Description

Enjoy these fluffy Maple Donut Bars, featuring a rich maple flavor and a sweet glaze. Perfect for breakfast or dessert, they are easy to make and sure to delight!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup maple syrup (for glaze)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 1/4 cup milk (for glaze)
  • Optional: chopped pecans or walnuts for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan with non-stick spray or line it with parchment paper for easy removal later.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the dry ingredients: flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Whisk them together until well mixed.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the wet ingredients: melted butter, buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla extract. Ensure the butter is not too hot to avoid cooking the eggs.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Gently fold the mixture together using a spatula or wooden spoon until just combined. A few lumps are fine; avoid overmixing.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean and the edges are lightly golden brown.
  7. Once baked, remove the pan from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, transfer the donut bars to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. In a medium bowl, combine the powdered sugar and maple syrup. Whisk until smooth. If too thick, add milk one tablespoon at a time until desired consistency is reached.
  9. Once the donut bars are completely cooled, place them on a wire rack over a baking sheet to catch any drips from the glaze.
  10. Pour the maple glaze over the top of the donut bars, allowing it to drip down the sides. Use a spatula to spread it evenly. Optionally, sprinkle chopped pecans or walnuts on top while the glaze is still wet.
  11. Using a sharp knife, cut the donut bars into squares or rectangles, about 2 inches in size.
  12. Place the cut bars on a serving platter. They are best enjoyed fresh, but leftovers can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
  13. Serve these delightful maple donut bars with a cup of coffee or tea for a perfect pairing.

Notes

  • Ensure the butter is melted but not hot to prevent cooking the eggs.
  • Feel free to customize the glaze by adding spices or extracts to enhance the flavor.
