This Taco Cheese Ball is a deliciously creamy appetizer featuring a blend of cream cheese, cheddar, and Monterey Jack cheeses, enhanced with zesty taco seasoning. Coated in crunchy tortilla chips, it’s perfect for parties, served with tortilla chips or fresh veggies for dipping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 16 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup taco seasoning (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/4 cup green onions, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup black olives, sliced
  • 1/2 cup diced tomatoes (drained if using canned)
  • 1 cup crushed tortilla chips (for coating)
  • Fresh cilantro, for garnish (optional)
  • Tortilla chips, for serving

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, add the softened cream cheese. Make sure it’s at room temperature for easy mixing.
  2. Using a hand mixer or a spatula, beat the cream cheese until it’s smooth and creamy (about 1-2 minutes).
  3. Add the shredded cheddar cheese and Monterey Jack cheese to the bowl.
  4. Pour in the sour cream for added creaminess and tang.
  5. Sprinkle in the taco seasoning, ensuring it’s well-mixed if homemade.
  6. Fold in the chopped green onions, sliced black olives, and diced tomatoes.
  7. Mix everything together until well combined.
  8. Shape the cheese mixture into a ball using your hands or a spatula.
  9. Place a large piece of plastic wrap on a clean surface and scoop the cheese mixture onto the center.
  10. Gather the edges of the plastic wrap to form the cheese mixture into a ball, wrapping it tightly.
  11. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until firm.
  12. After chilling, unwrap the cheese ball from the plastic wrap.
  13. Spread crushed tortilla chips on a large plate.
  14. Roll the cheese ball in the crushed tortilla chips, pressing gently to coat all sides.
  15. Sprinkle any leftover crushed chips on top for added texture.
  16. Transfer the coated cheese ball to a serving platter.
  17. Garnish with fresh cilantro if desired.
  18. Serve with tortilla chips and fresh veggies for dipping.
  19. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
